Imphal, October 24 2022:
Protection and Preservation Committee, Manipur (PPCM) convenor (Publicity Committee) Laikhuram Jayenta has urged shop owners to put up notices specifying the prices of items instead of selling them at whatever price they want.
In a statement released to the press, Jayenta informed that in view of the upcoming Ningol Chakkouba festival, a PPCM team led by its convenor Maibam Bisheshwor visited shops selling utensils along Wahengbam Leikai road on Sunday, to ascertain how and at what price they are selling the items.
During the visit, PPCM volunteers disguised as customers and found many of the shops selling the utensils at different prices.
Some shops were selling the items after weighing, while other did not weigh, and quoted any price.
No receipt was also given except for a scrap piece of paper, thereby evading paying GST tax.
It was also found that the Weight Measurement Department barely visited the shops.
Stating that PPCM had urged the shopkeepers to put up the price list of the items they are selling in plain view, the statement informed that the Committee will continue visiting other shops in other locations.
It then urged the Weight & Measurement Department and other departments concerned to cooperate with PPCM and prevent shops from selling items at exorbitant prices and those which have expired, while further ensuring quality of the goods being sold.
