Lions UN Day, debating competition held

Imphal, October 24 2022:
Lions Club of Imphal observed 'Lions UN Day, 2022' along with conduct of a debating competition for students of higher secondary schools and colleges on "Reformation of UNO is a must in a Dynamic World of 21st Century" at its Sangaiprou office premises, on Monday.
In a release, Club secretary Manas Maisnam informed that the programme was conducted with GP Women's College retired principal H Rajendra Singh as the speaker while Political Science HOD professor Abdul Hakim Shah and assistant professor K Indrakumar of the same college and Lions Club of Imphal member L Bihari were the judges.
Among others, the event was also attended by Lions District 322D governor Dr W Gopimohan.
Out of 31 students from seven schools and colleges, Sainik School bagged both the winners' and runners-up trophies.
In individual categories, Akoijam Athouba of Sainik School wrested the top honour (Rs 7000) as his schoolmates Alex Laishram and Kh Minerva shared second prize (Rs 4000) .
Highlighting the objectives of Lions UN Day observance, Lions Dist 322D past district governor H Manikumar said that Lion Club played a crucial role in the creation of United Nations in 1947, after World War 2 .
In recognition of its contributions to the UN and its bodies UNESCO, UNICEF, WHO, the UN has been observing the Lions Day in UN (LDUN) every year in February/ March.
Similarly, the Lion Club has also been observing the same on October 24 every year, he said.
