Imphal, October 24 2022:
All Manipur Women's Voluntary Association (AMAWOVA) celebrated its 33rd foundation day at Maharaja Chandrakirti auditorium, Palace Compound here on Monday.
Speaking as chief guest of the programme, MU Manipuri Department head Prof Toijam Tampha pointed out that AMAWOVA is an organisation which has been shouldering the responsibility of shaping the society similar to a mature woman.
A mother is someone who not only gives birth but also takes care and brings up the child properly and leads them to the right path, she said and lauded the members of AMAWOVA, who have been taking the roles of mothers of the society.
Pointing out that woman lives under the influence of man and cannot do anything freely as Manipur is a patriarchal society, Tampha continued that even if a woman holds high position or becomes a leader of an organisation she has to work after considering the whims of their parents, brothers, husbands and in-laws.
Women generally work for the society after completing the household chores.
As such, it creates
inconveniences to them, she maintained.
While stressing that the society should acknowledge the selfless works done by members of AMAWOVA for the welfare of the society, Tampha also observed men should attend function and events of the organisation so as to understand inconveniences faced by woman.
Urging the people to think and work for the society taking into account that they are indigenous people of a degrading society, she said that the aims and objectives of the mothers will be fulfilled when the state is run by people who think for the society and further exhorted all to fulfil the aspirations of the mothers.
Delivering key note address, AMAWOVA general secretary Kh Sujata said that the organisation has been working to include women in the movement for establishing an egalitarian, peaceful and developed society free from oppression.
Manipuri women have been taking vital roles in the socio-economic and political movement since earlier times, she said.
Stressing the need to seriously consider several burning issues of the society such as drug menace, influx of outsiders and threats to unity and integrity, she appealed to the people for bringing solutions to the issues and further assured that AMAWOVA will take its responsibility properly.
