Stage set for fish fair / competition

The Directorate of Fisheries is all set to organise the annual state level fish fair cum fish crop competition on the eve of Ningol Chakkouba festival on October 26 .
Announcing this during a press meet held at his office chamber at New Secretariat building here on Monday, fisheries minister Heikham Dingo said that the 44th edition of the annual fish fair cum competition will be held at Hapta Kangjeibung, Palace Compound on Wednesday.
Around 200 farmers from 16 districts of the state will participate in the event for which the directorate is setting up 115 stalls.

Fish species like Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp, Grass Carp, Silver Carp, Pengba, Khabak, Ngaton, Ngahei, Ukabi, Porom, Ngakra, Tunghanbi and local Shareng will be available in the fish fair.
The directorate is expecting exhibition cum sale of at least 1 lakh kg of fish including around 3000 local Sha.
The minister also said that the directorate is taking up various initiatives including introduction of latest technology and best practices under the leadership of chief minister N Biren to boost fish production in the state with the target of achieving self-sufficiency fish by 2025.Dingo also extended wishes for Diwali and Ningol Chakkouba to the people of the state.
Fisheries director H Balkrishna, who was also present during the press meet, said that competition will be held for maximum production and biggest fish.
Top three winners will get Rs 1 lakh, Rs 75,000 and Rs 50,000 cash incentive respectively along with certificates.
There will be 20 consolation prizes.
There will also be a special cash prize of Rs 20,000 for largest production of indigenous fish.
Fishery officers of both hill and valley districts with largest production will also get cash incentives.
