Imphal, July 12, 2013:
Boxer Laishram Devendro Singh, who won a silver medal in the 49 KG category of the recently concluded Asian Boxing Championships in Amman city of Jordan, was accorded a hero's welcome by his fans, boxing fraternities, local clubs and others when he returned to the state today morning.
As soon as he arrived at the Imphal Tulihal Airport, a large number of people including members of Yurembam Youth Development Club, Yurembam Awang Leikai and others escorted the teen boxer in a nicely decorated jeep to his hometown, Yurembam, Imphal West.
En-route to Yurembam, many people were waiting on both sides of road to welcome and applaud him.
The 21-year old Olympian lost the top podium by one point in the hands of his Kazakhstan rival.
While accepting that he had lost a gold medal due a small mistake from his side, Devendro, who is working as Junior Commission Officer in Indian Army, told Hueiyen Lanpao that he would be leaving the city on 20th July for rigorous training at Patiala for the forthcoming World Boxing Championship to be held in Kazakhstan this year.
