Imphal, July 12, 2013:
The Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) has categorically stated that the indigenous people of the State need not follow family planning programme in the midst of huge influx of non-locals to the State.
A release of JCILPS issued by Media Coordinator Somendro Thokchom said that according to a report of United Nations, India is set to become the most populous country in the world surpassing China by 2028.The World Population Day was observed on July 11 with the objective of reducing the population growth.
However, the indigenous people of the State are gradually losing its population over the past few decades mainly due to family planning policy while the excess population of India is moving into the State thereby altering the demographic pattern.
The family planning policies should be adopted by over-populated states of India and not by Manipur, it noted.
The Committee further said that the Governments of other north-eastern states have already taken up measures to safeguard their indigenous people, but the State Government is silent over such sensitive issue.
The JCILPS also resolved that it would respect the resolution taken by the State Assembly for implementation of ILP System and urge the State Government to form a High Power Committee.
