Fraud vanishes with Rs 14.52 lakh

Atleast 10 individuals, who are among many allegedly conned by one Leishangthem Budhi Meetei, have lodged a complaint to Imphal East police station urging immediate steps to pull up the fraud.
After an earlier agreement between Budhi Meetei and the complainants that the former would return the deposited amounts failed to materialise the 10 approached Officer-in-charge of the police station on July 11 with an appeal to apprehend the dupester.
Budhi Meetei, in his capacity as the managing director of 'Environment Conscious and Economic Liberty Foundation, reportedly collected Rs 14.52 lakhs as security amount from various individuals who were employed in the NGO.
Speaking to newspersons at Manipur press Club today, Foundation branch manager Md Sakul Ahmed said the NGO with about 110 personnel commenced operation from its RDS Campus, Palace Gate office in september 2012 with the activities mostly related to health-care issues.
Security deposit of varying amount was collected from individuals employed as nurse, technical attendant, assistant manager, supervisor and front desk officer by Budhi Meetei (41) s/o L Pishak of Bamon Kampu Awang Leikai.
Months after working under the NGO, claimed to be registered under the Ministry of Health Services, but without any remuneration, the employees proposed that the deposited amount be refunded to which Budhi partly obliged and cleared the deposit amount for 30 of the employees.
However the managing director disappeared with the remaining amount of about Rs 14.52 lakhs leaving the employees distraught and in anguish, said Sakul.
Upon suspecting Budhi's integrity and character the employees had also intimated the managing director to clear the first salary package within July 10 to which Budhi set July 20 as the payment day.
Unwilling to give another chance the employees insisted that they are ready to relinquish with the salary entitlement if Budhi refunds the deposited amount, said the branch manager who informed that a deed of agreement was signed at Porompat police station under which Budhi was supposed to refund the deposit yesterday (July 11). In addition to the promised refunding not materialising Budhi could not be located and the Palace Gate office was found to have been vacated without any trace of even a single file, the branch manager said.
