Ukhrul in confusion over 'public curfew'

Public in Ukhrul had a confused Friday after contradicting datelines given for the ''public curfew'' to be imposed by Tangkhul frontal organisations (TFO) pressing its demand for removal of Deputy Commissioner R.Sudhan.
In a section of local media on Friday, the timing for �public curfew' was published in a contradicting manner.
The Ukhrul-based Observer carried a news item informing that the TFO will start the agitation with effect from July 12 midnight.
On the contrary, the Imphal-based Aja Daily stated that the curfew will begin from Saturday midnight.
With contradictory reports causing confusion among the people from the district, TFOs held a hurriedly convened meeting and resolved to launch the public curfew from July 14 midnight.
In Imphal, as contradictory reports spread around many commuters from Ukhrul today had to make instant arrangement for a trip to their own villages.
In a statement issued in local media published on Friday, the TFO informed that the indefinite curfew will affect even the educational institutions, government offices, except a relaxation from 5am-10am on Sundays.
In fact, the TFO had issued a deadline on July 10 for the transfer of the incumbent Ukhrul DC.
As part of the preventive measure, the State Government had deployed a company of CRPF in Ukhrul as on Thursday.
MR and state police personnel gaurding the Mini Secretarait have been replaced by CRPF jawans.
The government is likely to send in additional forces in the next few days.
