Hunger strike by blind students

Students Union of Mission Blind School, Heikakpokpi has launched an indefinite hunger strike from Tuesday onwards since the State Govt.failed to upgrade the it to a full fledged School.
The School authority and Students Union have before launched different forms of agitations including bandh and blockade but since the govt.failed to translate their demand into action they are forced to launch hunger strike at the entrance of the School, said W Angkham Maring, Secretary General of the Union.
He further said that the authorities gave their assurances to fulfill their demands whenever a meeting is held between them.
On May 4, School authorities with Students Union met education minister Okendra and MLA D Korungthang of Tengnoupal A/C.They were told that their demands would be fulfilled and asked to withdraw their agitations.
But June 22 was given as deadline to the Govt.which it failed to keep, it added.
