Various bodies of Longmai (Noney), Tamenglong district have accused a team of Manipur Rifles led by one Gyaneshwar of arbitrarily assaulting two villagers near Tupul Namduanjang village along NH-37
on June 21 .
According to a joint statement of Longmai Pei, Longmai Bazar Board, Longmai Youth League, Longmai Students' Union and Longmai VA, two youths namely Gaimoipou s/o Ningphanlung and Gaitoulung s/o Gailoklung were severely thrashed by a team of MR personnel on June 21 .
Worried parents of both the victims were informed in the morning of June 22 that the two have been admitted to Shija Hospital.
Gaimoipou is said to be in an unconscious state at the hospital while Gaitoulung was detained at Lamphel PS, according to the statement.
The joint statement said that the two victims were engaged in a verbal duel with the driver of a truck which reportedly hit their motorcycles near Tupul Namduanjang village on Sunday.
The two persons fell in the roadside drain after the motorcycles they were riding were hit by the truck.
The MR personnel arrived at the scene when the argument took a higher pitch and started thrashing the two youths without uttering any word, the statement said.
Later, the two youths along with their motorcycles were taken to Imphal.
The personnel booked the two in order to cover up their dastardly acts, it alleged.
The Longmai bodies further warned of launching aggressive steps if the two victims are not compensated and if they are not released unconditionally.
It also urged the Home Minister and Transport Minister to prevail on the State forces and truck drivers so that discipline is maintained by the personnel and reckless driving is avoided by the truck drivers along the highways.
