People of Aimol community have dissolved the office of Aimol Tribe Union, Manipur (ATUM) led by S Mungthuireng Aimol for declaring Aimol as a Naga tribe in the media, reports our correspondent.
The decision was taken in a public meeting held at Ngairong village in Chandel district today.
After the dissolution of the office of the union led by S Mungthuireng Aimol, the people of Aimol community elected new executives of the union at the meeting.
7-Aimol Tampak DCC member Ch Chanthoi Aimol and RT Akhel Aimol were the chairman and secretary of the meeting respectively.
The house reviewed and minutely discussed the declaration made by S Munthuireng that Aimol is a Naga tribe on April 13, 2015 .
Observing that the declaration went against the wishes of the Aimol community and it had intentionally violated the principles of neutrality which Aimol people have been observing since the past many years, the house declared S Munthuireng's resolution null and void.
Later, RT Akhel of Tuikhang, Kh Lalkhochung of Aimol Khullen and Ch Ruitorlal of Aimol Satu were elected as the new president, vice-president and general secretary of ATUM for a tenure of three years at the meeting.
B Pachung of Khodamphai, Khomjalen of Kharam and Songneithang of Khodamphai were also elected as the treasurer, joint secretary and information secretary of the union respectively.
Village chiefs/chairmen, secretaries, village authority members, leaders of 'Numeivar', Church leaders and intellectuals of 11 Aimol villages from different districts of the State attended the public meeting among others.
Speaking at the sideline of the meeting, Ch Chanthoi Aimol said that Aimol people had resolved not to entertain any statement of S Munthuireng Aimol.
Saying that the State has 15 Aimol villages, Ch Chanthoi said that representatives from 11 villages attended the function which indicated that Aimol people want to maintain equidistance from both the Nagas and Kukis and remain as a separate entity.
He also appealed to all the organizations of the State not to entertain any statement or declaration made by S Munthuireng Aimol in the future.
Newly elected president TR Akhel Aimol appealed to the people of the State to live together in harmony.
