Imphal to become a war tourism spot

Imphal, June 23 2015 :
Hectic efforts are on to make Imphal war tourism/remembrance destination with the full cooperation of the Manipur government.
This was disclosed to Hueiyen Lanpao by Dr TH Dhabali, president the Manipur Tourism Forum during an exclusive interaction on Tuesday.
Once this is done relatives and family members of the slain soldiers and others, war historians and enthusiasts from all over the globe shall visit Imphal.
He also said that there is an immediate plan to construct a war museum in the state with the cooperation of the Manipur government.
The objective is to preserve and develop the war sites in the state.

In the meantime the Manipur Tourism Forum, the II World War Imphal campaign Foundation with the active involvement of the Manipur government shall continue to organise commemoration functions in the coming years.
He said that the Forum has been organising the commemoration function since last year.
For the time being there are not much on the agenda.
Japan and the United Kingdom are taking special interest in the efforts of the Forum since these countries were the major players in the frontline in and around Imphal.
There are about 10 war veterans alive today and all of them are above 90 .
It may be recalled that a memorial stone was unveiled on Monday at Keithelmanbi military colony to mark the 3 month long Imphal siege in 1944.Six war veterans had joined the solemn function.
They were honoured with mementoes.
Silent condolences for the dead soldiers were held in the function.
There were condolence messages from all over the world.
One film entitled "Imphal 1944" directed by Junichi Kajioka was also screened during the function.
