Imphal, June 23 2015 :
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam has claimed on Tuesday that threat and intimidation against Congress ADC members are continuing unabated.
Gaikhangam was speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the observation of the death anniversary of Sanjay Gandhi at the Congress office.
In the run up to the Autonomous District Council (ADC) polls, Gaikhangam, who is also the president of Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC), blamed the NSCN (IM) for carrying out activities to disrupt the electioneering and as well as the polling process.
He said preparation has been made to conduct oath-taking ceremony of all the members and that after the Chief Minister returns to Imphal he will be consulted in this regard.
"Because of the continued threat it has not yet been decided whether the oath-taking ceremony will be held at the district headquarters or not," he said.
Gaikhangam said there is also potential threat against formation of councils.
Apparently referring to the ongoing indefinite economic blockade on National Highways by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM), he said such strikes cause immense trouble to the public.
He stated that imposing economic blockade to push for demand by any organization is not a right move and contended that talks can bring about amicable solutions.
Gaikhangam said there is need to make legislation to deal with road blockade and informed that the Centre is understood to have make efforts to pass a law to prevent such strikes.
He stated that economic blockade violates human rights and that the public as well as the agitators equally suffer.
