New Delhi, June 23 2015 : All India Pre-Medical and Dental Test (AIPMT) for medical and dental courses for the year 2015-16 will be re-conducted on July 25, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced on Tuesday.

The decision comes after the Supreme Court last week granted more time to CBSE for re-conducting the All India Pre Medical Test-2015 and directed it to declare the results by August 17 after the board had pleaded that it would be impossible for it to hold the test afresh in four weeks.

In a statement issued today, the CBSE, which conducts the examination said: "In compliance with the Supreme Court order on June 15 and June 19, CBSE has decided to re-conduct the All India Pre-Medical and Pre-Dental Test 2015 on July 25 (Saturday)" .

It added that no fresh applications would be accepted for the examination and it would be a "retest only in respect of the candidates who had applied within the stipulated time from 01/12/2014 to 31/01/2015 with requisite fee" .

The apex Court had made it clear that the first counselling "shall be held on or before August 28, the second counselling on or before September 4 and the third counselling on or before September 11, 2015" .

A vacation bench of Justice RK Agrawal and Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre extended time till August 17 after Attorney General Mukul Rohatgi told the Court that the CBSE needed three months time to re-conduct the examination, citing various logistical difficulties including availability of 1,050 examination centres and invigilators.

The Court by its June 15 order had cancelled the AIPMT examination held on May 3 following the leak of the question paper and circulation of the answer keys through electronic devices across 10 States in the country, observing that the exam was rendered "futile by a handful of elements seeking to reap undue financial gain by subjecting the process to their evil manoeuvres" .

While ordering the re-conduct of the examination, the Court had noted that on previous occasions, "such type of examination had been held anew within a period of one month" .
