Imphal, June 23 2015 :
Taking serious note of the tense stand off between Mao people and southern Angami people over the land dispute at Dzuko valley and Koziiri areas, MPP has sought immediate intervention of the Nagaland Chief Minister so as to resolve the issue without any further delay.
MPP president N Sovakiran sent a letter to Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang today.
Speaking to media persons about the boundary dispute and his letter, Sovakiran said that a strong sense of apprehension has been created among Manipuri people on account of encroachment into the State's territory by Myanmar and Nagaland.
Southern Angami people of Nagaland and Nagaland State forces were scheming to take over Dzuko Valley because the valley has immense tourism potential apart from its forest resources.
Hailing the contributions of Mao people in safeguarding the territorial integrity of Manipur, Sovakiran said that friends can be changed but not neighbours.
He also called for harmony and peaceful co-existence among all neighbouring communities.
He also questioned the Government of India's failure to intervene and resolve the boundary dispute between Nagaland and Manipur in Dzuko area.
He also wanted keen desire for the Government of Manipur to take up effective measures in order to protect Dzuko valley and Koziiri area.
The State Government should also provide compensation for the vehicles belonging to Mao people which have been vandalized at Kohima.
MPP advisor Dr L Chandramani lamented that the territory of Manipur has been shrinking by and by.
MPP has no craving for other people's land but at the same time it is determined to safeguard the territory of Manipur under any circumstances, Dr Chandramani said.
