Imphal, June 23 2015 :
Meetei Youth Front South East Asia and International Meetei Forum have jointly imposed an indefinite counter- blockade on all National and State highways from Tuesday midnight against the indefinite economic blockade by All Tribal Students' Union (ATSUM) since Monday midnight.
Indefinite counter-blockade will be enforced on Imphal-Jiribam, Imphal-Dimapur, Imphal-Moreh, Imphal-Ukhrul, Imphal-Saikul, Imphal-Sugnu, Imphal-Moidangpok and Imphal Keithelmanbi roads, leaders of the two organizations announced at a press meet at Manipur Press Club.
Meetei Youth Front president Ng Mangal Meitei said though most of the demands put up by ATSUM are genuine, insistence on transfer of Land Records to the hill districts by claiming all villages in the valley as tribal's land cannot be accepted.
"Such demand is purely in the interest of a single community, it's purely irrational" he said.
The Manipur Government too should not consider such a demand raised by ATSUM, which is totally unilateral, Mangal insisted.
He cautioned that the two organizations will not be held responsible for any eventuality during the counter-strike.
Mangal said no transportation of essential commodities will be allowed from the valley to the hill areas during the counter blockade and sought cooperation from all transporters in enforcing it.
No vehicular movement to and from the hill areas will be permitted.
However those ferrying sick persons will not be interfered with.
Transportation of any kind of goods shall not be allowed.
There will be no restriction in the movement of vehicles in other areas.
