Assault slur cast on cops

One Haobijam Manichandra who has alleged that an SI abducted and physically assaulted him today demanded the authority concerned to take up stern action against the SI and his team.
Speaking to mediapersons at Thanga Chingkha Leikai, Haobijam Manichandra (35), s/o Haobijam Ibohal of Thanga Chingkha Leikai recounted that on January 18 at around 11.30 pm, police personnel shouted from outside his house to open the door.
When he refused to comply, four police personnel broke open the door and arrested him without showing an arrest warrant.
Manichandra said that he was blinded folded and taken away in a Gypsy.
The vehicle stopped before reaching Keibul Lamjao police station.
One SI Pradeep then asked him if he is a former member of MSF and further demanded him to disclose all the illegal activities he had carried out in the past.
Apart from asking unnecessary questions, he was even physically assaulted.
In search of Manichandra, his family members and locals of Thanga Chingkha Leikai approached the Assam Rifles, Thanga Post.
When told that Manichandra was not arrested by the AR, they went to Keibul Lamjao police station.
Manichandra was given a personal bond and released from custody this morning at 9.30 .
"I was falsely charged.
Such treatment is highly condemnable and should not be repeated.
Stern action should be taken up against SI Pradeep and his team," Manichandra said.
Ward Member Heisnam Birbabu while condemning the incident also urged to refrain from such inhumane act in future.
"SI Pradeep should be removed from his post or else people might be compelled to even boycott the election," Heisnam Birbabu said.
Manipur Pradesh Trinamool Congress president Kim Gangte, who was also present at the press conference, said, "We are against excesses by the security forces in the State.
Arresting and physically assaulting Manichandra should be condemned by all" .
