Imphal, April 18 2015 :
Gearing up to intensify its stir, the JAC of All Manipur Hill Districts Contract Basis Tea-chers' Association has announ- ced a 72-hour bandh on inter-State road transport services from April 20 midnight.
HM Saka, spokesperson of the JAC said in a statement that the contract teachers' body has decided to intensify the agitation as the Govt allegedly maintains stoic silence on the demand for regularisation of their services.
The JAC, with the support of major students' and youth bodies like ANSAM, KSO and TYCM, has been closing down all National and Central sponsored projects in Manipur, since April 9 .
The JAC also accused the Govt of ignoring the voice of various bodies based in the hills and valley regarding the genuine demand of the contract basis teachers and added that such attitude would not be tolerated.
The statement further added that inter-district transport services would not be covered by the bandh.
The JAC while acknowledging the supports it receiv- ed from various quarters, appealed to all students' bodies and civil society organizations to continue to extend their supports until an amicable solution is reached between the JAC and the Government of Manipur.
At the same time, the All Naga Students' Association Manipur (ANSAM) and Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO-Ghqs) have endorsed and supported the JAC-AMHDCBTA's proposed 72 hours bandh on inter-State transport service slated to begin from midnight of April 20 .
In a joint statement signed by Jonah K Mao, GS, ANSAM and Seiboi Haokip, GS, KSO (Ghqs), the two tribal student bodies informed their respective units to act in befitting manner in this regard.
ANSAM and KSO should deal the matter as State issue if the Govt fails to redress the matter before April 25, the joint statement declared.
