Tambola games under scanner

All police stations have been instructed to ban tombola games within their respective jurisdictions if they are likely to cause law and order problems, stated Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Gaikhangam.
The Deputy Chief Minister was replying to a query raised by MLA Joykishan in the State Assembly today.
Responding to Joykishan's query whether tambola games or housie in local parlance have been legalised, Gaikhangam maintained that tombola games have been neither legalised nor illegalised.
But tambola games should be banned if they are likely create law and order problems.
Noting that tombola games are being played in the State for earning easy and big money quickly, Joykishan said that some tickets have been signed by MLAs and Ministers so that people selling these tickets are not harassed or arrested by police.
Maintaining that playing tombola games is illegal, MLA L Ibomcha questioned why policemen are watching over tombola games.
Responding to a query put up by MLA Th Shyamkumar, the Deputy Chief Minister clarified that the only central paramilitary forces deployed in Manipur is Assam Rifles, others are central armed police forces.
There are 26 battalions of Assam Rifles in the State.
Assam Rifles are controlled by the Government of India and they conduct counter insurgency operations in notified areas apart from guarding international border.
Informing that Kh Rajchandra is the Controller of Technical Education Department, Chief Minister O Ibobi assured to examine if Rajchandra is ineligible for his present post.
The Chief Minister was replying to a question raised by MLA Y Erabot.
There is no plan to convert Manipur AIDS Control Society into Department of AIDS Control, stated Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing in response to a question raised by MLA Dr Ng Bijoy.
The 285 Sub Inspectors and 59 Jemadars appointed in August last year have not joined service till date.
The delay is because of a case filed at Court while the process of issuing appointment offer forms was on.

Then replying to a question raised by Th Shyamkumar, the Deputy Chief Minister informed the House that investigation into the killing of Asheibam Rajeshwari alias Inao of Andro Chingdong Leikai has been completed and due charge-sheet would be filed soon.
