Responding to a public interest motion raised by Trinamool Congress MLA Dr I Ibohalbi on the third day of the Assembly session today that the upper age limited be raised beyond the present 35 years of age, the CM said with the Union Public Service Commission also considering relaxing the upper age limit, the State Government too is looking into all aspects of raising the age bar to facilitate candidates appear in MPSC conducted Manipur Civil Services combined examinations and recruitment in different posts in other departments.
the Government considerations include raising the age bar for general category candidates to 35 years from the present 30, 40 years for Scheduled Tribe from 35, 35 for Scheduled Castes from 33 and 48 for physically challenged candidates from the current 40, detailed the CM.
Pointing out that due to financial constraints recruitment processes had to be put on hold for certain period of time even though recruitment ban on some departments was lifted through special Cabinet decisions, he also conceded that consequent to the recruitment ban that resulted in man power shortage some departments are on the verge of collapse.
Accepting that age bar problems faced by candidates is due to cessation of MPSC-conducted competitive examinations, the CM nevertheless pointed out that there had been age-relaxation upto five years at an earlier period.
Expressing his views on the issue, Dr Ibohalbi suggested that upper age limit of general category candidates be raised to 35 years to ensure that the most deserving candidate serve the people.
He also opined that raising the upper age limit for recruitment of contract basis employees would be helpful in solving the increasing problem of educated unemployed youth in the state.
