Even as the people of Toupokpi today staged a protest demonstration against the physical assault on three students including a girl at Sugnu Bazar by commando and VDF personnel on February 24, a new twist has emerged.
According to Sugnu Meira Paibis, it was the driver of the Bolero jeep who first assaulted a traffic policeman.
Even as people present at the scene asked the driver not to assault men in uniform, the driver who was well built , snatched the traffic policeman's referee as well as the shoulder batch.
One woman came down from the Bolero and tried to drag away the driver but the driver flung away the woman's hand and hit her on the chest accidentally.
The woman fell down and she was admitted to Sugnu health centre by womenfolk present at the moment there.
After sometime, one Khaidem Priya Leima took the traffic policeman inside her residential gate and locked the gate.
Later, some people informed police about the brawl.
A commando team arrived at the scene and arrested the driver.
In their bid to overpower the driver, one commando personnel was hurt on the leg.
The Meira Paibis said that the injured woman is the driver's wife.
On the other hand, the two boys who were reportedly assaulted by commando and IRB personnel maintained they were beaten inside police station too apart from forcing them to sign on a plain paper.
The girl student said that she was hit by a VDF personnel on the chest with his elbow which reportedly made her collapse.
