Dimapur, February 26 2014 :
The indefinite economic blockade against Nagaland by several Assam based organisations completed second day today sending people across Nagaland in a frenzy of panic buying of essential commodities.
Two battalions of IRB and large number of police were deployed in the Nagaland-Assam border near Dimapur on Wednesday to avoid any untoward incidents.
CrPC 144 continues to be promulgated by the concerned administration in the areas where the blockades are being enforced by agitators.
A large number of youths with placards and banners were also seen put up by the blockade supporters.
The indefinite economic blockade against Nagaland along both National Highway 39 and NH-36 from February 25 has been jointly imposed by Karbi Students and Youth Council (KSYC), All Dimasa Students' Union (ADSU), All Assam Gurkha Students' Union (AAGSU), Karbi Unemployed Youth Association (KUYA), KSA, ADSU, AAGSU, Karbi Re-Awakening Organisation (KRAO) and United Students Union of Karbi Anglong (USUKA) in protest against the alleged encroachment of Assam's territory by people from Nagaland side.
Reports from Karbi Anglong district of Assam said that till date there has been no report of any untoward incident in connection with the agitation.
The sources also said that there has been no new development vis-a-vis the talks to call off the indefinite economic blockade.
The agitating Karbi Anglong district based organisations have alleged that 'Nagaland counterpart has already encroached upon a large area of our forest land and it has become order of the day as intrudes, cut jungles, construct road and houses etc.
When police force from Assam asked the encroachers to evict the areas, they resorted to fight back' .
Meanwhile, shopkeepers in the Nagaland commercial hub Dimapur informed Newmai News Network today that the availability of food items is doubtful if the indefinite economic blockade continues for the next few days.
