Toll rises to 7, victims identified

The death toll in the road mishap which took place near Taobam village of Tamenglong district along Imphal-Jiribam yesterday has risen to seven.
Meanwhile Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has condoled the demise of the seven labourers in the fatal mishap.
All the deceased were BRTF labourers.
The ill-fated truck in which they were travelling fell into a gorge about two Kms beyond Irang bridge.
Altogether 30 BRTF labourers and two JCOs were travelling in the truck.
Of the seven deceased, two were women.
The deceased have been identified as Dailakliu Kamei (70) w/o Meiripou of Rongkhong Part-III, Apeina Gonmei (27) w/o Pantiluang of Rengpang, Mengangphang Kamei (33) s/o Abon of Rengpang, Khongam Gangmei (32) s/o late Dintalak of Rengpang, Thangongpou Rongmei (28) s/o Pousinglung of Khongsang, Thuankulung Phaomei (34) s/o Ajaina of Khongsang and Gabriel Tete (36) s/o Junus from Gumla district of Jharkhand.
Others who escaped with injuries are being treated in different hospitals at Imphal.
Even as some of the passengers jumped out sensing the catastrophe, one of the deceased victim was found buried in sand.
Corpses of the deceased have been handed over to respective families after post mortem at JNIMS.
In a condolence message, Dr Ratankumar said that he was shocked on learning about the fatal mishap which seven people and critically injured another 17 persons.
He also conveyed solidarity to the bereaved families, and also their near and dear ones.
