BRTF truck mishap: Death toll rises to 7

The death toll in BRTF truck mishap in Tamenglong district has risen to seven with one more injured victim succumbing late last night.
A truck of BRTF carrying its labourers felt into a deep gorge at a spot located in between Irang and Khongsang, some 25 kms east of Nungba Police Station along NH-37 late afternoon yesterday while trying to give side to loaded trucks coming from Jiribam.
The driver lost control of the vehicle due to slippery of the road from rain.
The labourers were returning home after their day's work from Irang when the unfortunate incident occurred.
The post-mortem on all the seven bodies were conducted at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) here today and handed over to their respective families.
The victims have been identified as K.Apeiliu alias Dalakliu (70), w/o Meiripou Kamei of Rangkhung III; Kapeijan Gangmei (27), W/o Pantilung Gangmei of Rengpang II; Thonkulung Phaomei (28), S/o Ajaina Phaomei of Khongsang; Thangonglung Rongmei (34), S/o Pousinglung Rongmei of Khongsang; Meingangpheng Kamei (33), S/o Abon Kamei of Soubunglong; Khuangam Gangmei (32), S/o Dintanlak Gangmei of Mongjaron Khullen and Gabriel Tete (36) of Jharkhand State.
Among the injured, 15 of them including 4 women are currently undergoing treatment at JNIMS.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and others visited JNIMS today morning to console the
victims' relatives.
It is not clear what assistance the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister have given to the victims.
On the other hand, Zeliangrong Baudi, Manipur has expressed deepest condolence over the death of seven BRTF labourers in the tragic accident.
Maintaining that the accident took place when a fully loaded BRTF truck was giving passage to the escort security vehicles plying on NH 37, the Baudi condemned the reckless drivers and the vehicles who sped away hurriedly seeing the ill-fated BRTF truck turned turtle three, four, five times and plunged into the gorge 50 metres down the road in front of their eyes and demanded that victims should be fully compensated and medical re-imbursement be made adequately to the injured victims.
