Conrad Sangma inaugurates MSU Makhel Heritage Conclave

Meghalaya Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma inaugurated the Makhel Heritage Conclave commemorating Mao Students Union's (MSU) 88th anniversary and conference under the theme, "Rekindling our Heritage".
Speaking as the chief guest, Conrad Sangma lauded MSU for successfully organising the event in a grand manner.
He also stressed on the importance of balance between politics and culture while exhorting all to preserve one's identity, heritage and remember the ancestors.
"India's biggest strength and challenge is the youth.
If it could divert the energy and channelize the youths in a constructive manner, they could become India's greatest strength", the CM asserted.
He continued that policies to channelize the youth and mold, direct & cultivate them into a constructive workforce is the only way to take the nation forward.
Conrad Sangma further stated that the youth of North East, especially the tribals should come out beyond the concept of reservation to compete with the rest of the world.

Y Joykumar Singh, Deputy Chief Minister, Manipur lauded the Mao tribe for its advancements in different fields.
Stressing on the importance of human resources, he urged the people to help each other to bring change and development in the society.
He also urged the youths to promote a healthy lifestyle and avoid the use of drugs.
Calling the day historic, PHE Minister L Dikho stated that the event has played an important role in preserving culture and traditions by bringing people together from all corners.
N Kayisii, MLA, 49-Tadubi and State NPP president lauded the Meghalaya Chief Minister for his endeavors towards the development of North East states.
Loli Sheshuna, convenor COC in his welcome note stated that Makhel village is considered to be the place where Assamese, Meitei and Naga tribe dispersed.
Claiming that almost all tribes of the country could trace its origin to Makhel village, he said, "historically and culturally speaking, Makhel occupies a pivotal place in the hearts and minds of all these communities".
Marikho O'Leriina, president MSU stated that the conclave is a homecoming event while adding that Mao Students Union during its 88 years of existence have rendered remarkable services to the people, playing an important role in refining and shaping the future of the younger generation.
Kegwayhun Tep, president Naga Students Federation stated that the Nagas have come a long way as food gatherers and head hunters, conquering great distances over hills and plains.
"Out of the whims and mercies of nature, it is significant to note how the people who were considered as savages by the outside world a few decades ago have transcended into a new era of social changes and modernity within a brief period of time", he asserted.
Later, an academic and debate session was also conducted on the topic, "Modernity is a threat to our culture and identity" .
