MSCW conducts legal awareness

Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) on Tuesday organised one day legal awareness programme under the banner 'Rights of Married Women" at Liwa Sarei Community Hall, Chandel under the sponsorship of National Commission for Women.
The programme was jointly organised by MSCW and Sirti Sanuw Ruh (Monsang Women Union), Chandel.
Commission chairperson in-charge Thumlip Tiningpham Monsang, members Lourembam Dayabati Devi, T Chuongsin Koireng, and SSR president Ts Dinpham attended the programme as presidium members.
Advocates Khaidem Santa Singh, Kh Jacky Lucy spoke on the rights of married women.
The programme was attended by 100 women of different communities.
On Monday, the commission visited the residence of a PhD scholar, who was reportedly eloped forcibly and wrongfully confined by one Rajkumar Master Meitei on December 12 .
The visiting team of the commission had an interaction with the victim girl and inquired about the incident minutely and assured that it will investigate the matter expeditiously in line with the applicable laws.
Status report into the incident has been sought from the DGP Manipur by the commission which is returnable on or before January 5, 2022 .
MSCW strongly condemned the death of another female student aged about 20-years of Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai.
"Such heinous crime on a young girl is intolerable and the perpetrator should be brought to book and prosecuted with the full force of the law so that justice is done and other persons are deterred from committing similar crime in the future," said a release by chairperson in-charge Thumlip Tiningpham.
