Workshop on Manipuri culture begins

A four-day national workshop on 'Axiology of Manipur Culture' organised by Manipur University UGC-STRIDE Component-1 Department of Dance and Music in collaboration with Department of Philosophy under the aegis of UGC-STRIDE Component-1, UGC, New Delhi, commenced from Tuesday at the Department of Dance and Music.
The opening function of the workshop was attended by MU vice chancellor professor N Lokendra as chief guest, MU School of Humanities dean professor N Aruna as chairperson and retired IAS RK Nimai as guest of honour.
Speaking at the function, MU VC Prof N Lokendra informed that the Department of Dance and Music was opened at the varsity with an aim to further develop and enhance the profile of Manipuri music and dances, as well as to facilitate various communities of the state to involve in their indigenous music and culture and carry out research.
He also exhorted all including various departments of MU to work together for the future of the society.
MU Department of Anthropology prof MC Arun-kumar also spoke on 'Culture and Social Dynamics in Manipuri Culture' during the programme.
As a part of the inaugural function, a book titled 'Panoramic Views on Manipuri Culture' was also released.
