Consultative meeting held

Manipur Alliance for Child Rights, Ukhrul District Alliance for Child Rights and Juvenile Justice Board, Ukhrul jointly organised a consultative meeting on the issue of protection of child right s at Oasis confernce hall, Ukhrul today.
The consultative meeting was attended by A Nabachandra, Chairperson of Manipur Committee for Protection of Child Rights as chief guest, Worshang Ningshen, SDO Ukhrul as president, K Maharabi, Member of Child Welfare Committee Imphal East and K Pradipkumar, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee, Imphal East as guests of honour.
A Nabachandra while speaking at the meeting said that the Manipur Commission for Protection of Child Rights comprising of one Chairperson and six members started functioning from December 2012 .
Within this short period of time, the commission has taken up a number of cases, he added.
He said that such consultative meetings would impart awareness on important Government schemes, RTE and POSCO Act etc.
He also urged the general public to bring all the issues and complaints related to child rights before them so that necessary measures can be taken up in time.
Nabachadra said that it was unfortunate to witness many child trafficking cases in Ukhrul district last year.
He also mentioned about the need for proper verification of the individuals, children homes and agencies, who promise free education, before handing over children to them.
UDACR Convenor Thotchuila Hongray spoke on the topic, 'child rights punder RTE' while K Pradipkumar, Chairperson of Child Welfare Committee Imphal East, delivered speech on implementation of POCSO Act.
K Maharabi, Member of MCPCR, also spoke at the meeting on the topic, 'child traffcking and role of commission' .
