CM, Dy CM, Speaker greet people on Nupi Lal

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi, Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam and the Speaker of Manipur Legislative Assembly Th Lokeshwar Singh have greeted the women of Manipur on the occasion of Nupi Lal observance to be held on December 12 .
In a message, the Chief Minister said the women of this land have been protecting the society from all kinds of evils since times immemorial.
While appreciating the role of women for the betterment of the society, Ibobi expressed belief that the observance of Nupi Lal in Manipur will significantly contribute to revitalize the potential and energy of women of the state in national development works.
Deputy CM Gaikhangam, in his message on the occasion of Nupi Lal observance, recalled the spirit and valour of Manipuri women in preserving communal harmony and peaceful co-existence in the state.
In a message to the people, Speaker Th Lokeshwar said that the people of Manipur will always remember the courageous efforts made by the women folk of the State in the Nupi Lal of 1939 .
'We should feel proud as descendents of those brave women who had sacrificed their lives revolting against the Britishers to put a stop on the export of rice from the State', the Speaker added.
He said that those departed souls in this historic incident will always be remembered in the years to come.
Further, the Speaker noted that disregard of religion, caste or creed; the people of Manipur should work towards the realization of common goals and stood against other social ailments of our society, while affirming that the 'Nupi Lal' is a perfect example of one such act.
