Rice bandits apprehended

Two individuals who reportedly hijacked a truck laden with rice have been apprehended and the truck as well as rice laden inside it have also been recovered.
The apprehended bandits have been identified as Hijam Sunday s/o Chandra and M Bidyananda alias Naocha, both belonging to Tangkham.
But Ranjit from Bokajan who drove the truck could not be traced till the time of filing this report.
The rice laden truck was parked in front of Sangaiprou FCI godown awaiting its turn for unloading yesterday afternoon.
But when truck owner Yumnam Temba (43) s/o Nobin of Meitram Makha Leikai came out from the godown at around 3 pm after obtaining necessary challan for unloading, the truck had disappeared.
Later in the evening, it was reported that a truck met with an accident between Morok Ingkhol and Ngairangbam, Imphal East district.
When a team of Imphal West district police reached the spot, all the rice loaded in the truck and many parts of the truck were found stolen.
A strong police team led by Imphal West Additional SP (Law and Order) Dr S Ibomcha carried out a publicity campaign this morning asking all concerned to bring out the stolen rice as well as truck parts, if they stolen it.
Although a total of 400 bags of rice were loaded in the truck, 250 bags of rice, two truck seats and a brake shoe were recovered this morning.
Later Sunday and Bidyananda who reportedly masterminded the hijacking of the rice laden truck were arrested from the locality in the course of a search operation.
Rice stolen from the truck were found concealed in haystacks and under drains.
