Bird nets recovered

PFA Manipur raided Ikop Lake after receiving inputs that birds were being poached and managed to collect seven big bird nets found at the paddy fields near the lake.
On seeing the PFA team, some poachers managed to escape.
They left two single barrel rifles which PFA later handed over to Thoubal Police for verification, according to a PFA release.
Meanwhile, about a week earlier, one O Naoton of Kyamgei Maning Leikai handed over a flightless common coot and a juvenile Malayan Box Turtle to PFA.
The coot succumbed next day due to suspicious food poisoning.
In another incident one Huirom Doren Meitei of Yairipok Top Chingtha handed over an injured white breasted water hen.
In another event, PFA rescued a green snake of Trimeresurus species from Singjamei Waikhom Leikai.
The snake was found on a flower plant inside the garden of one Laiphrakpam Sunil Singh.
The snake might have come along with the bamboos of a store which were recently brought from Jiribam.
Meanwhile, a tourist from Rajasthan, Urva Sharma, a research biologist of Wildlife Institute of India visited PFA Manipur animal shelter yesterday.
She came all the way from Rajasthan to visit the North East.
She said that she is pleased to find people who love wildlife in Manipur.
Urva who is also an artist presented a pencil sketch of Amur Falcon to PFA, the statement said.
