Rice truck missing case: Police recover rice, arrest handymen, driver absconding

Imphal, December 11 2014:
Following the incident of missing of a rice-loaded truck from Sangiporou Godown yesterday, police have recovered the truck and arrested two handymen on Thursday, while the driver is still absconding.
In a bizarre incident, the truck bearing registration number MN01-9061 belonging to Yumnam Hemba of Meitram Awang Leikai, which was parked at the FCI godown yesterday afternoon was found missing along with the 420 numbers of 50-kg rice bags to be unloaded at the godown.
When the owner of the vehicle was about to complete formalities for the unloading, the truck amazingly fled from the scene.

Subsequently, Lamphel Police station took up search operations to find the truck.
On getting information that the truck was lying mishap at a place between Ngairangbam and Morok Ingkhol in Imphal East district, a team of Imphal west Police led by Addl SP (LO) Dr S Ibomcha conducted a search operation from 9 am to 4 pm today.
During the operation, the police team which also included SDPO O Saklemba and OC Doren of Lamphel PS and OC Sagolmang PS Santosh, could recover the truck which was lying on the road upside down.
However, some parts of the truck including the seat and the battery were found missing.
Later the Police team in collaboration with the NYC Club members could trace 60 rice bags from Sarouthel area, 184 bags from Ngairangbam and 6 from Morok Ingkhol.
Some of the rice bags were discovered from the fields, while others from the private houses.
The seat and a few tools were also recovered, while the battery was untraceable. In connection with the incident, Police have so far arrested two handymen, Hijam Sanjoi and mangsidam Bidyananda @ naocha from Tangkham.
However, the driver identified as Ranjit from Bokachand from Assam was still absconding till the filing of this report.
Police suspected the driver and the handymen in the hijacking of the loaded truck.
Meanwhile, an FIR has been registered at Lamphel Police station where interrogation of the due is going on.
