Governor, CM greet on Nupi Lan

Governor Dr KK Paul, Chief Minister O Ibobi and Manipur Assembly Speaker Th Lokeshwar Singh joined people of the State in paying tribute to the brave 'Imas' (women) who rose against the colonial rule for their monopolistic policies and practices on the occasion of Nupi Lan Day 2014 .
In his message, Governor Dr KK Paul said that the movement of Manipuri women�who revolted against the export of rice as there was near famine condition prevailing in the State� popularly known as Nupi Lan occupies a unique place in the history of the State as courage, sacrifice and patriotism of Manipuri women came to the fore.
"Our women have carried forward these qualities and continue contributing in economic and social development of the Manipuri society as well as in tackling social evils.
Our tribute would be more meaningful if on this day we resolve to make Manipur a more peaceful and prosperous State," the Governor said while wishing a grand success to the Nupi Lan celebration 2014 .
CM O Ibobi in his message said that the agitation by the womenfolk alone against the oppressive and monopolistic colonial administration shows how valiant and responsible the Manipuri women are in the society.
"While observing the Day, let us all come and join hands to work together to fight all evils and vicious crimes in the society including crime against women and children.
Only then our homage to those brave Imas will be meaningful," the CM said.
Assembly Speaker Th Lokeshwar said that the courage, responsibility and sacrificial spirit of the brave women who fought against the monopolistic policies of the colonial rule in the two phases of the Nupi Lan deserve acknowledgment.
He called upon all people of the State cutting across all divides to emulate the sacrificial spirit of the brave women and strive to bring the State to the path of peaceful coexistence and development.
