Senapati rallies against anti-people activities

Against the backdrop of reported rise in anti-people activities like planting of a bomb at DC office, levying illegal taxes by different armed groups/ Government Depts in Senapati district, a massive public rally cum public meeting was held today at Senapati district headquarters to denounce such unwarranted anti-social activities.
The rally was organised by the Naga Peoples' Organisation (NPO) in collaboration with frontal bodies and tribe hohos.
A large number of people from different communities including student leaders, intellectuals and businessmen took part in the rally.
Large banners and placards were carried along the rally to send out a clear message of discontentment and resentment against any anti-social activities.
The rallyists carried and displayed placards reading 'Stop illegal tax,' 'Stop anti-people activities,' 'Respect people's sentiment,' 'Let us protect public property,' 'Give peace a chance,' 'We condemn violence,' 'We resolve and decide to protect people's rights and public property,' 'We condemn any form of anti-people activities by any Government Department or group' 'Stop bullet and bomb culture in our district' and 'We condemn planting of bomb at DC office' .
At the end of the rally, the NPO and frontal bodies read out a common declaration stating that any groups or individuals involved in any form of anti-people activities would be socially boycotted.
Outgoing NPO president ML Markson briefed the public meeting and said that anti-social elements have undermined the rights of the general people.
He said that the people are saddened and devastated by any form of violence including factional fights among the armed groups.
Any form of bullet and bomb culture and percentage cut regime in Government Departments which have hampered development activities in the district must be stopped immediately, added the outgoing president of NPO.
