Imphal, March 04 2022:
Alleging that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has been doing nothing despite several incidents of poll related violence and electoral malpractices, the Manipur Progressive Secular Alliance (MPSA) staged a protest demonstration today.
Notably, MPSA is a pre-poll alliance of six political parties headed by Congress party.
Wearing black blindfolds, members and workers of CPI, CPI-M, RSP, JD-S, Forward Bloc and Indian National Congress staged a protest demonstration at Congress Bhavan here today. They put placards which read "ECI, please open your eyes", "Stop poll-violence, restore peace," "Stop using SoO outfits in election" etc.
The protesters also took out a rally along BT Road.
The protest rally was led by MPCC president N Loken, Dr M Nara and L Sotinkumar of CPI and AICC Manipur in-charge Bhakta Charan Das.
The rally was flagged off from Congress Bhavan.
The protesters marched up to the western gate of Kangla and formed human chain there before turning back and went to the Khwairamband Keithel.
The rally wound up at the starting point.
Later speaking to media persons, MPCC president N Loken said people were witnesses to the several instances of violence and electoral malpractices committed through SoO outfits in the hill districts which went to polls in the first phase on February 28 .
There are many reports of destruction of polling booths by BJP at different places in the valley districts which are going to polls in the second phase, Loken alleged and accused BJP of violating the very foundation of democracy.
Bhakta Charan Das said that militant groups under SoO pact have been openly supporting BJP after they have been given Rs 16.60 crore.
The ECI was acting as a silent spectator even as militants under SoO pact were running the show at different polling stations.
It is a matter of utter shame that the ruling party has been indulging in gross abuse of power and rampant violence in their quest for power, Bhakta Charan Das added.
