Kangpokpi, March 04 2022:
Condemning the alleged assault on KSO Sadar Hills general secretary by Manipur police commandos on March 3 at Kalapahar, KSO general headquarters has demanded immediate removal of commandos deployed in the hill areas.
The Kuki students' body said that KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip was assaulted by Manipur police commandos at around 1 am without any reason.
It said that the genefal secretary was monitoring the construction work of the student body's administrative office building at Kangpokpi district headquarters which went on till late night on March 3.KSO continued that the general secretary dropped president of Zillai in Changoubung village after monitoring the construction work and he was on his way home when the police commandos assaulted him at Kalapahar right after he identified himself as the general secretary of KSO Sadar Hills.
The police commando also attempted to throw away the KSO general headquarters flag which was inside the vehicle of KSO Sadar Hills leader while questioning in a very disrespectful manner as to "how big is KSO and civil society organisations?", it said.
Such act of the police commandos itself is another misuse of power, KSO further said, while pointing out that frisking and assault on KSO Sadar Hills general secretary Thangtinlen Haokip was led by additional SP of Imphal West at Kalapahar, which is under Kangpokpi district.
How could an educated officer in uniform make a communal statement by underestimating the student organisation, asked the KSO-GHQs, adding that at least they need to show respect to their service uniform as they are trained officers.
Demanding stringent and appropriate action against the commando personnel along with the additional SP involved in the assault of the general secretary, KSO asked all security forces present in the hill areas to stop assaulting innocent civilians and civil society leaders without any valid reason.
It further strongly demanded that taking advantage of the assembly election and the presence of police commandos in the hill area should be stopped at once.
The student body then asked Kangpokpi district police whether they had knowledge of the Manipur police commandos' presence in their jurisdiction.
It also stated that until there is a fresh order from the state government, the prevailing order should be respected.
