Imphal, March 04 2022:
While accusing the BJP of using money and muscle power to influence the voters, the Communist Party of India (CPI), Manipur State Council has urged the Election Commission to take up necessary measures so as to conduct the second phase of polling in a free and fair manner on March 5 .
Addressing the media at Irawat Bhawan today, CPI-MSC State secretary L Sotinkumar stated that use of unfair means in the election has disappointed a large number of people as it will not reflect the true mandate of the people.
Claiming that the first phase of polling on February 28 was never free and fair as reports of booth capturing, rigging, proxy votings were widespread especially in Constituencies at Churachandpur and Kangpokpi districts, Sotinkumar exuded confidence that the outcome of the 2022 Assembly election will reflect the anger of people for many issues pertaining to border pillars, territorial integrity, corruption and price hike among others.
BJP, however, is tarnishing the beauty of democracy by using money and muscle power to stay in power, Sotinkumar claimed and accused the saffron party of fielding several candidates involved in drug related cases and for resorting to different forms of violence.
Further claiming that BJP assaulted supporters of Congress and one CPI comrade at Kakching Khunou yesterday, Sotinkumar claimed that the desperation of the saffron party to retain power is reflected in their unethical deeds.
He then went on to state that the election will be free and fair only when the Election Commission performs its duty without the influence of the ruling party.
