Imphal, March 04 2022:
Kuki People's Alliance (KPA) has strongly condemned the barbaric and inhumane act of violence carried out by armed cadres of Zomi Revolutionary Army (ZRA) against innocent people in Singhat assembly constituency.
While condemning the series of post-poll violence in Singhat AC since the past few days perpetrated by the armed cadres, a KPA statement said that police at Singhat have turned a blind eye to SoO group ZRA's criminal misdemeanour.
The responsibility of ZRA is to protect community members and uphold human rights of all citizens including the right to freedom of assembly and of expression but the organisation has become a terror mongering group against their own people.
It is a dark day of democracy for the people of Singhat as ZRA ran riot and unleashed terror.
The appalling incidents were all election related and should be unequivocally condemned to the highest degree by all right-thinking individuals.
The people of Singhat are now living in fear particularly those who voted for candidates other than BJP in the recently conducted election.
Many of them are now under attack from supporters of BJP candidate, the KPA said and highlighted sequence of the incidents against law abiding civilians in Singhat constituency.
KPA then urged the government to take appropriate action against ZRA leadership and instruct them to rein in their cadres.
It also said that ECI must conduct a high-level investigation into the incidents and make adequate security arrangements for the repoll in respect of 60/36-Teikot and 60/43-Maukot polling stations to be held on Saturday.
