Dr Sahiinii releases "Grammar of Poumai Naga (Poula)"

Dr Sahiinii Lemaina Veikho's book "Grammar of Poumai Naga (Poula): A Trans-Himalayan Language of North-East India'' was officially released by L Kaisa, ACI Administrator on January 15 .
L Dikho, Chairman, Board member of ACI, donated Rs 120,000 to the author to cover the printing cost for a local publication, so that the grammar book can be circulated at an affordable price within the community members.
The book is published by Brill publishers (Leiden, Netherlands), one of the finest academic publishers in the world.
In the international market, the book is sold at �229 by the publisher.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Sahiinii, HOD English Department, Asufii Christian Institute (ACI) highlighted that the book is not a prescriptive school grammar but contains the basic theoretical understanding of grammar rule of the language, with a focus to understand how the Naga Languages (or Sino-Tibetan languages) work, with an extensive analysis done on Poula dialect (Naamai/Koide dialect) to understand the grammar rules.

He pointed out that the book would be of substantial use for any Naga grammar writers while encouraging students and scholars to take the work forward.
Dr R Ngupani Tao, chairman of Poumai Literature Society (PLS), congratulated the author for his success and expressed his gratitude on behalf of the Poumai Naga community for coming out with a comprehensive work on Poula, which is a less studied language.
L Kaisa stressed on the need to work on the native languages, many of which are at the verge of extinction.
She mentioned that the published grammar will now be a reference book for the languages spoken in the vicinity, particularly for Shupfomei (Mao, Poumai, Maram) languages.
The author donated a copy each at the event to Asufii Christian Institute, Poumai Literature Society, Mao Academy, Poumai Naga Baptist Association (PNBA) and Poumai Naga Catholic Me.
The event was attended by P S Khoru, secretary PLS; R S Abraham member PLS; Ng Elizabeth member PLS; Ng Liba Hopson, youth and education secretary PNBA along with college students and teaching faculties.
