Imphal, January 20 2022:
The Congress party will release its first list of 42 candidates by January 22 for the 2022 Assembly election which will be conducted in two phases.
Today, a virtual meeting with the AICC Central election committee was convened to discuss its strategies for the election and to identify candidates with prospects.
The meeting was attended by AICC chairperson Sonia Gandhi, election observer for Manipur Jairam Ramesh, general secretary Mukul Wasnik, former Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and MPCC president N Loken.
It is reported that Jairam Ramesh has taken a list of Congress candidates to New Delhi for consideration.
Speaking to The Sangai Express after the meeting, N Loken said that the MPCC will release its first list of 42 candidates for hill and valley districts by January 22 .
Saying that a meeting of the screening committee will also be convened on the day of the announcement, N Loken maintained that Congress will probably release the names of its candidates in three phases.
N Loken further stated that there is a possibility of Congress forming a pre poll pact with parties which are not coalition partners of the NDA.
If the Congress gets an opportunity to form the next Government then the party might form an alliance after the election too, he added.
