Imphal, January 20 2022:
Janata Dal-United (JDU), Manipur Unit would be fielding at least 20 candidates in the upcoming 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election and will be announcing its candidates on January 27 .
Addressing a press meet held at JD-U Manipur Unit office here on Thursday, secretary general Maisnam Dorendro Singh informed that the party is planning to field a minimum of 20 candidates in the upcoming polls, adding that a list of 17 candidates has already been prepared.
The names will be announced by the national president upon his arrival in the state on January 27 and 28 after a meeting of national leaders.
Although joining of more MLAs to the party is in the pipeline, nothing has been confirmed for now, he added.
On the other hand, regarding the misuse of the party flag by one Ningthoujam Bihari, Dorendro condemned him (Bihari) for using the party flag while joining BJP in a function held at the residence of Khurai AC BJP MLA on Wednesday.
Dorendro said that Bihari was respected as a national council member of JDU but was removed from the post due to his inability to take part in party activities owing to old age on December 20 last.
He was replaced by Ningthoujam Sanjoy on January 11 this year.
"Subsequently, Bihari submitted his resignation to the party office.
JDU has no issue with his departure but it is highly condemnable of him to use the party flag, claiming that the Khurai MLA was supported by Khurai JDU unit.
Bihari was not registered as a primary member of JDU and as such, the state party unit will be taking legal action against him," the secretary general revealed.
JDU State secretary and Khurai AC intending JDU candidate Lokendro, who was also present during the press meet, said that Ningthoujam Bihari is not related with the political party and the state unit and as such he should clarify on the matter.
JDU State vice president and Legal Cell advisor Amujao Elangbam demanded Bihari to pay compensation for using the party flag, while adding that the party will take legal action against Bihari for misusing the flag of the party flag.
