Polo: Samudon, Thoubal riders win openers, reach semifinals

Both Samudon Ayangba Polo Club and Thoubal Polo Club started their campaigns on a winning note as the 17th Women State Level Polo Tournament and 8th Junior Boys U-16 State Level Polo Tournament 2021-22 got underway on Thursday at AMPA Iroisemba Kangjeibung.
In the women's opening match, Samudon Ayangba Polo Club inflicted a heavy 9-2 defeat on Laman Polo Club to book a spot in the semifinals.
Moirangthem Priya led the rout with a five-goal salvo.
She scored twice in both first and second chukkers and completed her scoring by adding a goal, her fifth, in the third chukker.
Mutum Enourembi did hex with a goal each in third and fourth chukkers while Salam Ngounu contributed a goal (third chukker) in their side's resounding victory.
Thoubal Polo Club opened the junior boys' event with a 5-4 win over K&RMM Riding School.
The result propelled the Thoubal boys to the last four.
Okram Rahul turned the hero for the winning side.
He scored a treble, a goal in the third chukker and two in the fourth chukker.
N Kirankumar and Th Pamheiba also got on the scoresheet.
On the other hand, W Kedarnath claimed a treble in a losing cause.
