As the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly election is round the corner, political parties have intensified their preparations to announce their respective nominees.
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president N Loken revealed that the party has made all preparations to announce the names of candidates for 42 assembly constituencies within January 22.After the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said that it would announce party's candidates within January 25, National People's Party (NPP), which is a partner of the saffron party in the coalition government, has also made arrangement for announcing its candidates.
BJP is preparing to field candidates in all 60 assembly constituencies of the state, while a leader of NPP informed The People's Chronicle that they will field at least 30 candidates in the upcoming state assembly election.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, MPCC president N Loken Singh confided that they are ready to announce the names of candidates for 42 assembly constituencies within January 22 .
All the necessary works have been completed after minutely discussing with AICC leaders, he added.
Stating that further discussions will be conducted for the remaining seats after the names of 42 candidates were announced, Loken hinted that the party is also working towards signing pre-poll alliance with other like-minded parties.
As such, the names of the candidates for the remaining 18 seats could not be announced at one go.
The candidates for the remaining seats will be finalised after discussing with the alliance partners.

CEC meeting will be convened without further delay so as to announce the names of party candidates for Manipur and Punjab assembly election.
The announcement of candidates for Manipur might be on January 25, the leader added.
