Sit-in protests arrest of 'innocent' man

A sit-in protest was staged at Salungpham Kangyambem Mamang Leikai community hall on Thursday against the arrest of one Loukrakpam Manglemjao (30), son of L Meghachandra Salungpham Kangyambem Mamang Leikai by Heirok police on the alleged charge of abetting poll violence.
Manglemjao was allegedly taken into custody on Wednesday when he-went to report to the police station after being summoned by Heirok Police.
Speaking to the media, one of the protestors identified as Thingbaijam (o) Nganbiton Leima expressed strong condemnation against the recent thrashing of a couple namely Phuritsabam Anoi and Ph Maipakpi by unknown persons around 10.30 pm on January 13, but the arrest of Manglemjao in connection with the case, when he is not related at all, is not acceptable.
Manglemjao must be immediately released without any condition.
He is a simple daily wager who has nothing to with politics, she said and asserted that charges framed against him is not reasonable.
Nganbiton continued that people of Salungpham are eager to see conduct of the upcoming assembly election in a peacefully way.
As such, all political violence should immediately be stopped in Salungpham as the people of the area are totally against it, she maintained.
