Imphal, April 05 2011:
Accusing Tamei AC MLA Awangbou Newmai of using inappropriate language and outright disrespect to the official rights of District Council at DRDA Office, Tamenglong district on March 31, altogether 14 Members of Tamenglong ADC headed by their Chairman G Soihem Haomei has urged the Manipur Legislative Assembly to move a privilege motion against the MLA.
While discussing proceedings of DRDA and BRGF related work orders, Awangbou Newmai authoritatively claimed an undemocratic stake in issuance of work orders in defiance of the Centre's fresh directive according to which the chairmanship of the five DRDA's of hill districts should be vested in the Chairmen of the Autonomous District Councils.
Awangbou Newmai reportedly stated that the Council Members had no authority whatsoever to interfere in the District Rural Development Agencies (DRDAs), conveyed a press release signed by the 14 ADC Members.
That itself amounted to a blatant display of political immaturity by the concerned MLA, asserted the ADC Members.
Demanding an 'ethical and professional apology' from Awangbou Newmai, the District Council Members informed that they would move appropriate legal sanction against his professional misdemeanour in case the MLA fails to do so.
They further appealed to the Speaker of the Manipur Legislative Assembly to take up a privilege motion regarding the issue in order to uphold the sanctity of constitutional powers, and for a sane environment of work execution.
