Guwahati, April 05 2011:
Rahul Gandhi said today that the Congress is the best bet to weed out corruption in the country.
The AICC general secretary said this while addressing a series of election rallies in Assam on Tuesday.
The next phase of Assam assembly poll will be held on April 11 .
The comment of Rahul Gandhi came as social activist Anna Hazare launched his hunger strike demanding the tabling of the Lokpal Bill.
On Tuesday, Rahul Gandhi addressed election rallies at Chaygaon (western Assam), Mazbat (northcentral Assam) and Raha (central Assam).
"The Congress it was that gave you RTI and NREGA so that you can point out what's going wrong.
Ours is the only party that is serious about rooting out corruption," the AICC leader said.
Rahul Gandhi also batted for a youthful party.
"The youth have a massive responsibility of taking the country forward, the Congress has the right mix of youth and experience to ensure good governance," he said.
Non-Congress parties, however, were quick to point out who Rahul was campaigning for.It is worth mentioning that on Monday inspite of the mounting threat from the Paresh Barua faction of ULFA to disrupt Assam poll, 70% of voters turned out to cast their votes in the first phase of Assembly elections.
The remaining 64 seats will be held on April 11 .
