New Delhi, April 05 2011:
A 32-year-old Manipur youth, with alleged links to North-East insurgent groups, was arrested in the Capital for allegedly possessing 200 kg of Ephedrine worth ' 200 crore meant to be smuggled to China and Myanmar, police said.
The accused, identified as Nepoleon Thockchom, was apprehended from Samalakha village in Southwest Delhi on Friday morning while he was on his way to the Delhi airport, Arun Kampani, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), said.
He added that Ephedrine a vital ingredient in manufacturing amphetamine stimulants such as Ecstasy was recovered from his possession.
His cousin and associate Robindro, who is suspected to be a frontman of the banned terrorist outfit KCP (MC) Lalheiba group, is absconding.
In March this year, police had received an input that Ephedrine would be sent illegally from Delhi to Myanmar and China, via Manipur.
"The proceeds of these illegal sales were being sent to various banned militant organisations of Manipur," Kampani said.
"We received information that Thockchom and Robindro had come to Delhi from Manipur to collect a consignment of Ephedrine.
A trap was laid and Thockchom was apprehended while he was going to the Delhi Airport to book the consignment to be sent to Manipur by air," Kampani said.
