Imphal, December 18 2010:
Sleuths of the National Investigative Agency (NIA) have been probing whether Muslim underground organisations operating in Manipur have any link with Mujahideens operating elsewhere.
A reliable source informed that the NIA launched an investigation into possible link between Muslim UGs operating in the State and Mujahideens in the course of an extensive probe into the networks of Mujahideens.
Even as the NIA unearthed certain clues and leads about possible links between Muslim UGs of the State and Mujahideens, the same could not be confirmed as yet.
Nevertheless, sleuths of the NIA are working on it.
Notably, a native of Thoubal district was arrested by security forces in Jammu some years back and it turned out that the Manipuri native was trained by Laskar-E-Toiba.
On the other hand, armed Muslim groups operating in the State have not been declared as banned organisations by the State till date, informed a top officer of Manipur Police.
Moreover, Manipur Police have not yet provided FIRs registered against arrested leaders of Muslim armed outfits to the NIA.
Notably, the NIA is handling the cases related with the arrest of some top UNLF and KYKL leaders.
