Setting January next year as the deadline, contractors engaged in developmental works being taken up under the Manipur Sericulture Project at Sangaipat in Imphal East district have announced their decision of taking recourse to agitation if their pending bills were not cleared.
Addressing a press conference at the project complex today, members of Manipur Seri Project, Sangaipat Constractors and Sub-Contractors' Association disclosed that bills amounting to Rs 8.5 crores are pending clearance.
They informed that around 25 contractors/sub-contractors have engaged for completing all construction works on war footing following instruction from the Chief Minister and Minister concerned ahead of the proposed inauguration by the Prime Minister in October 2008 .
Over and above this, office building and other sheds constructed have been started using but the formal handing over and taking over is yet to be done, they pointed out, adding that among the works that have been completed include land development, construction of scooter shed, guest house, retaining wall, drainage system and road within the project complex.
Setting January next year as the deadline for clearing all the pending liabilities, the aggrieved contractors said that they may be constraint to lock up the project if the demand is not met.
