One of the oldest men of Manipur and the one time prominent social activist H.Yaikan Chothe has passed away early today at his Lamlang Hupi (Chothe) village of Bishnupur district.
He was survived by thre sons, a daughter and a good number of grandchildren.
H.Yaikan Chothe was 107 years old.
He was born on November 17, 1903.Meanwhile, The Zeliangrong Union (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) and Zeliangrong Youth Front (AMN) while conveying their heartfelt condolences, have said that late H.Yaikan Chothe was a man of strong determination and undisputed leader of the Zeliangrong community.
According to the ZU and ZYF, H Yaikan was a founder member of 'Agaangmei' and Kabui Samiti, the oldest and the foremost organisation of the Zeliangrong community during 1927 to 1942 .
The ZU-ZYF said that H Yaikan was the chairman of Zeliangrong Union from 1982 to 1985.ZU and ZYF also said that H Yaikan was a patron member of the Kabui Naga Association Plot Trustee Board (KNAPTB) which is the present Zeliangrong Building at Paona Bazar in Imphal, till his last breath.
The Zeliangrong organisations said that Yaikan Chothe during his life time had rendered priceless services to the Zeliangrong community politically, socially and economically.
